Lucy
… is a funny, energetic teenager with big hopes and dreams. Lucy is full of personality and her smile, bright blue eyes and sarcasm make everyone around her happy.
Lucy has been a fighter even before birth. She, and her identical twin sister, had a rare condition in the womb called Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. This condition caused Lucy and her sister to share blood flow and critical nutrients. Although this was detected, her condition required surgery in the womb.
Lucy’s sister passed away, but Lucy continued to fight despite being born at 28 weeks and only weighing 1.5 lbs at birth. Because of the early delivery, Lucy’s brain wasn’t fully developed resulting in Intraventricular hemorrhaging (IVH or brain bleeds) that led to Hydrocephalus and Cerebral Palsy. These conditions impact her ability to fully use her legs, arms, and speech. Despite countless doctor visits, surgeries, and hours of physical therapy, Lucy remains patient and full of joy.
